The June 15 Bhandara in Kainchi…

There is always a tremendously moving pure bliss around Maharaji Neem Karoli Baba. It was so when he was in his body, and you can feel it now if he graces you with a visit in a dream or a vision. And just before he left his body in 1973, he granted us a few days of an even greater experience of this bliss.

The whole Kainchi ashram became suffused with an unearthly joy. We walked among each other in a brilliant trance of love that was so tangible, yet completely subtle, that the whole ashram was transformed into a heaven world.

And yesterday, the first time since then, I had that exhilarating feeling again.

Hanuman Chalisas and pujas had been continuous in the ashram for a month. Long time devotees had come from near and far in the anticipation that again there would be a field of grace open to enter.

And then the day began with heavy rain. The first people arrived at 4 am, waiting in the rain, open, eager to receive Prasad (blessed food). When the doors opened, the crowd was directed to pass the temples for darshan and then exit through the back of the ashram. Everyone received a simple meal, malpuas, a fried pancake, and a dish of spicy potatoes. And more than a meal, they received the nurturing of their souls.

And they came by the thousands, 80 to 100 thousand, all day long, the rich and the poor, the old and the young, all barefoot, joyful and patient before their gods and in the presence of their Baba.

Like a string of precious jewels they passed through the ashram, walking on a trail of grace and leaving behind the taste of their guru’s bliss.

They are – we all are – Maharaji’s big form, for he is one with everyone and everything. And they passed through the guru’s present body, his ashram, in the presence of a love that leaves nothing out.

All day I could not take my eyes off this peaceful, fast moving, seemingly unending stream of beautiful souls. And we are all beautiful, admirable, treasured, and filled with a light we cannot yet see, but perhaps sometimes sense.

On this day this light was clearly shining, and once more the indescribable sacredness of this unique place was lit up by guru’s grace, for all to feel and see.
