In this short video, we see the Rathotsavam on November 18 1983, which inaugurates every birthday celebration at Prasanthi Nilayam. Lord Venugopla Swami is taken in a florally decorated wooden chariot to the Sri Pedda Venkappa Raju Kalyana Mandapam (the former old Mandir where Swami stayed in the 1940s) in a grand procession along with Lord Rama, Lakshmana, Sita, and Hanuman. Lord Rama and His Divine Family are then brought back to the mandir while Lord Venugopala Swami remains in the Kalyana Mandapam itself. This is a day for celebration by all of the residents of Puttaparthi. Traditional village dances, energetic playing of drums, simple village folksongs that express the devotees’ love for Bhagawan, fast-paced bhajans and powerful Vedam by His students…all of these elements make Puttaparthi Heaven on earth! In this video, Swami personally goes to the ratha or chariot and sees it off while granting darshan to the thousands perched on the branches of trees and the rooftops of buildings to get one glimpse of His radiant form.
