Hanuman is the greatest devotee of Sri Rama. His love and reverence for Lord Sri Rama is beyond compare. In fact, every hair in Hanuman’s body was constantly singing the praise of Lord Sri Rama. Once when Hanuman was asked how much he loved Sri Rama, he tore open his heart to reveal the form of Sri Rama enshrined inside. Thus, devotees of Hanuman have the twin benefits of receiving the blessings of Lord Sri Rama in addition to Hanuman’s blessings.

Manojavam Maaruta Tulya Vegam
Jitendriyam Buddhi Mataam Varishtham
Vaataatmajam Vaanara Yutha Mukhyam
Sri Rama Dhutam Sharanam Prapadye

Translation of Hanuman Mantra –

One who is so fast like that of the mind and the god of air

One who has conquered the senses and one who has a superior intellect

One who is the son of Lord Vayu (god of air) and the one who is the most important head of the Vanaras (Monkey clan)

One who is the ambassador of Lord Sri Rama; I bow down to him and take refuge in him

Hanuman Mantra is so beneficial in fulfilling the genuine wishes of people. It confers, wealth, health, prosperity and happiness on those who chant it with due reverence and concentration. Hanuman is also called Siranjivi, one who has no death. Therefore, chanting Hanuman mantra can remove the fear of death.

It is said that when Sri Rama asked whether he wished to enter Vaikunta at the end of the Ramayana story, It appeared Hanuman wished to stay on this earth listening tot he glories of Sri Rama sung by his devotees. Hanuman takes great delight in listening to the chanting of Sri Rama’s name. Therefore, along with Hanuman mantra, chanting Sri Rama’s name shall bestow added benefits on the devotees.

Hanuman flew over the ocean and reached Lanka where it was suspected that Ravan, the demon king had imprisoned mother Sita. After a long search, Hanuman found mother Sita in the Asokavan, a well maintained garden in the palace of Ravan. Hanuman appeared before mother Sita and showed the ring sent by Sri Rama as a matter of proof to attest his identity as the messenger of Sri Rama. Mother sita was wailing in agony having been separated from her dear Lord. The sight of Hanuman brought back her hopes and she blessed Hanuman with several boons.

Hanuman visited mother Sita on a Tuesday which is also called as Mangalvar (the auspicious day of the week). Therefore, mother Sita blessed him stating that those who worshipped Hanuman on Tuesdays will receive her blessings too as a bonus. Mother Sita is verily the goddess of Lakshmi incarnated on this earth and therefore chanting Hanuman mantra on Tuesdays will secure the blessings of goddess Lakshmi too. .
